cousins night out
my mom called last saturday to invite the “girl cousins” to a special dance performance by their talented 18 year old “girl cousin”.
the girls in this family take girl time very seriously. they are few in number. this was a big deal.
ruby girl didn’t have to leave until 3:30 but she ran to her room and was completely ready by 10am.
“mom, i know just what to wear.”
“okay but it needs to be something kind of nice, like a skirt.” i am big on letting them express themselves through their clothing so not wanting to intervene i let her lead the charge.
“mom, i know that and i have the perfect idea.”
i cringed looking at one dress of her’s in particular. she loves and adores this dress and i was SURE she was going to pick it. it is like bad quinceanera dress from the 80′s. but i don’t have the heart to take it from her. she feels so very fancy and special in it. you know what i am talking about. every little girl has one.
but no, she pulled a fast one on me and chose this little get up… she loved the bangles, the bag and the sparkling skirt passed down from her cousin. if you have followed me for any length of time you know i will have to pry these boots from her cold dead grip.
i was proud of her. was it exactly what i would chose? no. but she felt cool and special and as long as it was age appropriate i was fine with it.
we made this vest here / tank / skirt (old from gap) similar here / boots (old from zara) we have our eyes on this one and this one and this one and one more this one/ handbag (old from target) similar here and here
so off she went with her Hello Kitty lipgloss phone and her best friends in the whole world to watch her idol, hailey, dance on stage.
she was mesmerized. she was happy.
